It’s the first time in its 17 year-old history when the event will take place in an Eastern European country: Romania.
Did you know that over 200 Romanian IT&C experts are working at Microsoft Headquarters in US ? Did you know that Bitdefender is a Romanian brand? Did you know that the Finnish mobile phone supplier and a leading provider of mobile and fixed telecom networks Nokia has started its production at two new plants in Romania? |
Some words about Romania
After a decade in the ‘slow-lane’ of economic transition of the 1990’s, Romania has recently emerged as one of New Europe’s most impressive growth stories. A country with a chequered history of Communist ruling, Romania continues to enjoy rich rural traditions while embracing modernization so as to become Eastern Europe’s first largest economic power house.
The Investor and IT&C associations of Romania are widely recognized as some of the most respected and influential lobbying associations in Eastern Europe. Its western-oriented culture and the high educational level of its youth bring Romania forward as a huge potential market, the second largest software producer in Eastern Europe.
Romania is leader in Europe, in terms of the number of certified IT specialists, with density rates per 1,000 inhabitants which are greater than in the US or Russia.
Romania has a clear potential in information technology. In terms of IT outsourcing services, Romania is ranked in the third place worldwide, successfully challenging India.
Since 1994 the Romanian IT market has had growth rates of 40-60 percent a year. The biggest sector in terms of revenue is system and network integration, which accounts for 28,3% of the total market revenues.
Romania is ranked the 6th in the world by a number of certified professionals, "2003 Global Skills IQ Report", Brainbench, and has been awarded a bronze certificate in the category of "Most Certified Nation (Overall)" during the first annual Bench Games 2005, "2005 Bench Games Report", Brainbench.
Romania's main competitive advantage in software development consists of its highly qualified and cost-effective human resources. Currently, about 25,000 software professionals work in the industry and almost 1/5 of them are involved in software export activities.
